Abstract

Aim. To analyze and summarize publications concerning the use of electrical transcutaneous stimulation of acupuncture points in the treatment of headaches, to evaluate the effectiveness, safety and characteristics of the therapeutic effect.

Methods. Review of publications in Russian and foreign electronic libraries for the period from 2000 to 2024, with a selection of original articles and research results published in peer-reviewed journals devoted to the results of the use of non-invasive (transcutaneous) electrical stimulation of acupuncture points in the treatment of headaches in randomized study conditions with control groups.

Results. The studies included in the review indicate the clinical effectiveness of electrical non-invasive transcutaneous stimulation of acupuncture points in the treatment of chronic migraine and tension headache.

Conclusion. Non-invasive (transcutaneous) electrical stimulation of acupuncture points can be considered as an effective and safe method for treating headaches.
